French Open Betting Tips

French Open - Day Thirteen Roger Federer The 2010 French Open promises to be an exciting tournament. Not only is Rafael Nadal back to his best form as he seeks to reclaim his title from Roger Federer, but 'Queen of Clay' Justine Henin will be competing in the women's draw for the first time since 2007.

2010 French Open Men's Betting Tips

Bookmakers are offering very short odds on Rafael Nadal, and with the best price on the Spaniard weighing in at 4/9 at Bet365 it seems that bookies think the result of the tournament is a foregone conclusion.

Recent results by Nadal suggest that bookies may be right. Two clay court Masters titles down the line, Nadal looks to have recovered his best form and will take some beating at Roland Garros in 2010. However, he's priced too low to return on a bet in the outright markets, and we recommend a small lay bet on him to capitalise on an upset.

Who, then, could upset the King of Clay? Roger Federer is the obvious answer. Federer has been subdued since taking the Australian Open title, but would love to put one over his arch-rival on clay, particularly since he is yet to beat Nadal at the French Open.

Federer is trading at around 4/1 in the French Open betting markets. At this price he still provides value on an each-way bet, with bookies like Paddy Power paying out 1/2 odds to second place at the tournament. We wouldn't bet against Federer making the final, and he's a good player to back each-way.

There are a couple of players who could make life difficult for Federer and Nadal at the French Open, and even return great value on an outright bet with an upset win. These include Juan Martin del Potro, who is trading at around 10/1, and Nikolay Davydenko, who is trading at around 33/1 and could have a big clay tournament in him.

Women's Draw

Justine Henin is an out-and-out clay specialist who'll be chasing her 5th French Open title at Roland Garros in 2010. The Belgian is back in form, and doesn't look like she'll roll over for any of the other top ranked players on clay. At 6/4 in the French Open betting markets, she still provides decent value on an outright bet.

If you're looking for value on an each-way bet on a player who has what it takes to reach the final, you have a number of options. Kim Clijsters is a standout option priced as high as 7/1 at several bookies, while defending champion Svetlana Kuznetosva is way overpriced at 12/1 at top American bookie, Bodog.

Given the odds available on these two, we'd go with each-way punts on both of them, and hope to score a decent payout if one of them manages to make the final of the 2010 French Open.
